Ceremomy and Celebration

Warriors of the Earth Ceremony* (at the turtle mound)
The Warriors of the Earth (WOTE) is a cutting edge movement with in the pagan global community. It a grass roots lodge that grows by participating in the ritual and passing it on to your community or group. It has been growing since the late 90's. Why are you a pagan? Do you feel that your magik is drawn from the earth and her sacred animals and plants, even if you live in the city? How do we continue as a religion while considerable amounts of sacred forest and land is constantly being consumed to urban sprawl and mass consumption. Where do we as a movement stand on this?
These questions and an interactive discussion, along with the gods that have chosen to stand with the WOTE will be present for a ritual that will challenge your core, and reward you your right to participate and claim that which is yours...and ours.
Facilitated by the dragon ritual drummers as well an WOTE members that will be on site.

Sacred All Night Healing and Expressive Arts Fire Circle Ceremony  facilitated by Jason Cohen with members of Incus.

The sacred dynamic fire circle experience is a co-creative, all night, eclectic spiritual ritual in which a safe art and sharing space is developed around a fire. Inside, from around midnight until dawn, energy and awareness is raised and cultivated through drumming, dancing, singing, chanting, and various other forms of human expression. Through the balance of listening, serving one another, and expressing, these layers of that which we have necessarily gathered together tightly to protect ourselves, come down, until a simple and free flowing state of embodied divinity and deep personal freedom rises through us. This culture is very much about reclaiming our own intimacy and our right to experience life to the fullest.   www dot Forestdance dot net

Bonfire Drumming and Dancing: Since the dawn of time, humans seeking spirit-vision, purification and ecstatic celebration have drummed, danced and chanted around the fire.  Bring your drums, voices and percussive instruments as we celebrate our diversity and union throughout the festival. Wisteria has three designated drumming circles: Stone Circle (sober), Pawpaw (wooded tribal drumming), and Bonfire, the large community gathering place.  At all times of day or night, people drum and dance at their campsites making joyful dancing rhythms.  Come find your authentic, ancient self and join the ecstatic revelry!

Nightime Candle Labyrinth: Follow the labyrinth’s convoluted candle-lined paths for a personal meditative journey of transformation and reflection.  Labyrinths are constructed walking patterns that combine the circle and the spiral into purposeful paths of self-discovery and awareness.  While your interpretation of the experience is your own, many see walking the labyrinth as an active metaphor for life’s journey.  How do you walk?  How do you treat those you meet on the path?  What impressions or ideas do you experience as you journey to the center of your being and back?  How are we all connected during our personal journeys?  Using hundreds of lit candles to define the pathways, the Labyrinth at Cornstalk will glow through the night for journies of discovery and reflection.

Also On Stage at Solstice . . .

Momentary Prophets  make acoustic music with acoustic instruments and Love.  Their music has been called everything from relaxing to transcendent.  Most simply stick to “I’ve never heard that before.”  ‘Prophets began as a performance troupe in Spring of 2006 combining colorful music, colorful clothes, and absurdity.  The band has given up none of these as they have honed their craft to include infectious rhythms, intricate and inter-locking melodies and a genre all their own.  “Progressive Rainbow Grass” is the closest thing they can come up with.  Some of their favorite instruments that they can actually play include the 6 and 12 string guitar, ukulele, banjo, sitar, stand-up bass, electric organ, and kalimba.

At Solstice, Susan will present workshops promoting the healthy nourishment of families: “I believe firmly that in a child’s early years, the foundation is laid for their entire life: for their health and well-being, for their sense of relationship with other human beings and with all realms of nature. Without the proper nurturing or recognition of the human being in the learning environment, a deficit develops that can’t be made up in later years. It is about giving the child the opportunity to play, to explore, to be outdoors, to experience the arts and the spoken word, living images, stories, music. It is about giving them something worthy of imitation, inwardly as well as outwardly. It is giving them a sense of inner authority."

Arts and Artisans

Demonstrating Artist James Kelly   has been fabricating and welding metal crafts using modern methods for 16 years.  He has been demonstrating traditional coal-forge blacksmithing at renaissance faires. Wisteria Solstice 2009 was his first Earth-based festival and he looks forward to returning many times in the future.  His interest in blacksmithing has evolved into an effort to pass knowledge of the craft on to others in order that the art does not die.  He attends the Unitarian Church in Huntington, West Virginia with his wife Vallorie and his daughters Sierra, Rowan and Catie.  One of his goals is to learn more about his Celtic origins, particularly their forging techniques. "Blacksmith O'Kelly" will be presenting classes on Introductory Blacksmithing

Susan Minyard  also known as the witch with the big oven in the back yard, has been a professional potter for 35 years.  A fact that amazes her.  She first got into clay while a grad student at the University of Georgia and has never looked back.
